Question From The Booth

Hi Trade Show Coach:
Where do I go to find out the latest and the greatest trade shows for my industry? Is there one special place, or web site that has it all? I have been on Google and they list a lot of sites to look at. It seems like a lot of work to get this information. How do you do it for your clients?

Bill M. Sales Associate
Baltimore, MD

Dear Bill:
That’s right there is a lot of work required to do a good job of finding the right trade show(s) for your company. If you go on Google and put in “trade shows USA” you will get over 139,000,000 hits! www.eventseye.com I find to be an excellent site, but there are others that you should look at as well.

In my book, “Tips and Tales from the Booth: Avoiding Trade Show Mistakes” I have over 10 pages of Trade Show Resources. It takes time and effort if you want to insure that you have chosen the right trade show for your company.

I have gotten more than a few calls regarding eBay. Asking if they could buy used trade shows booths on eBay. Since I did not know much about this site I went to an expert who is a member of one of my networking groups, Mr. Frank A. Renna who owns and operates Auction Wave of Sayville, NY

I was so impressed about what he said I thought my readers would be interested as well.

June 2009

To My Clients, Friends, Associates,
and Future Clients:

May was a busy month on May 14th I was in the audience, since I am a guest lecturer at Stony Brook University, to witness the final presentation of the Class of 2009 Fundamentals of the Bioscience Industry Program. These students did an outstanding job and it showed it the work that they presented. I was also invited to their Graduation Reception on Friday, June 12, 2009 at Stony Brook Manhattan. It has been a pleasure to be part of this program and to have met these wonderful students, and future leaders in the Bioscience industry. I would be remiss if I did not mention Dr. Lorrence H. Green, President of Westbury Diagnostic, Inc. one of the Course Director of this Program. He is always a tough act to follow, and I always have to be at my best to be part of his team.

On May 19, 2009 Dean Mercado of OnLineMarketingMuscle gave a presentation on Social Media, the Power of the Internet at the Middle Island County Library that was well attended. Dean is a pro who knows the Internet and what you need to do to use it correctly and effectively.

On Tuesday 5-19-09 I attended a seminar given by Erica Prince, President of The Professional Speakers Bureau, Inc on “Public Speaking: How to Market Yourself for Explosive Business Growth” It was well attended and she gave out good information.

On Wednesday, 5-20-09 I was Guest Speaker at the Franklyn Square Chamber of Commerce. Over 45 members were in attendance, and from all indications they were very pleased with the information that I gave regarding How to have a Successful Trade Show.

On Thursday 5 21- 09 I attended the HIA Trade Show Executive breakfast and listened to Keynote Speaker Brian Parsley CEO –WeSkill speak about “Brand Awareness” He was worth the price of admission, he is a great speaker. But as one attendee commented, “It would even be better if we had something other than luke warm coffee out of a paper cup and cold bagels as the breakfast.”

I also visited the Zorn Booth where Monique Zorn and her crew where giving out a taste of the Zorn chicken. From the number of people walking around wearing Zorn stickers, I believe they had a successful show.

I also attended the Seminar given by John A. Mangione, President of the PR Store, “Increase Market Share during Slow Times, There is a Silver Bullet” John is a real “Pro” I always learn something from listening to John. It was well attended, and from the comments everyone was pleased with what they heard.
June will be another month with a lot of networking and new marketing programs that I am in the process of implementing.

To continued trade show success,

Guest Columnist:
I first met Peter Reiss at the HIA. At the time he was Chairperson the Membership Committee and he was also running his furniture business. I did not come in contact with him again until I joined the LI Connects networking group. Since he has given up selling furniture, and has concentrated on obviously his first love Feng Shui, he is a different person. More relaxed, calm and quick to smile. It is a pleasure to know Peter Reiss as both a businessman and a friend.

Feng Shui for the Trade Show Booth

It’s Show Time! You spent $$$ on your booth. You have “location, location, location.” John Hill showed you his “3P’s” (plan ahead, prepare for and perform there) and you did them all. But still there aren’t enough people hanging around long enough for you to connect and qualify them.

Worse, the booth across the hall is smaller, less professional looking and packed. What’s going on? What’s missing? What else can you do?

Well, have you looked at your booth’s Feng Shui?

“Wait,” I hear you say, “isn’t Feng Shui for your home?”
Yes it is…but try thinking about the booth as the company’s home away from home. Feng Shui rules for your home and life success apply to your business, too.

So, what can Feng Shui do? Remember, it’s the unconscious feeling people get when they look into your booth that draws them in or keeps them walking on by. Feng Shui helps you grab the walk-by’s by increasing the attraction ch'i (energy) and pumping up the subtle magnetism that says, “Come on in and let’s chat.”

I know, I know, sounds weird. But it works and the competition will never know your secret weapon. Here are 3 trade show basics with a Feng Shui twist and 3 secret Feng Shui booth tips to get you started:
